You know when a film is based on a true story that it is bound to have some merit. And this one is the latest directorial effort from Clint Eastwood, the latest in his recent string of films based on true tales of American heroism after American Sniper and Sully.
In 2015, on board a train to Amsterdam to Paris, an attack was narrowly averted after a man began opening fire in a train carriage. The assailant had enough ammo to kill up to 500 people, but three passengers – Anthony Sadler, Alek Skarlatos and Spencer Stone – stepped up to do what was necessary to protect the people on board. As well as the event itself, this film also charts the early lives of these brave men, giving the audience a complete understanding of how they were led to act so heroically in those vital moments.
Notably, Eastwood has also cast the actual heroes of the events that unfolded to portray themselves in the film. This unique casting choice, coupled with the gripping fact-based story, makes for another solid film from one of the most reliably consistent directors working today.
