In 2015, a little film by the name of Blue World Order started filming in Canberra – but this isn’t your usual Canberra film. Not only did directors Ché Baker and Dallas Bland set out to make a high-concept sci-fi actioner right here in the nation’s capital, but they went one step further and secured a cast worthy of the genre. From Jack Thompson to Bruce Spence, Stephen Hunter, and even Billy Zane, there’s certainly no shortage of recognisable talent involved.
Set in a world in which civilisation has crumbled in the aftermath of a nuclear apocalypse, the film follows an ordinary man as he desperately seeks a cure for his comatose daughter. Little does he know that she is the last child on the planet following a deadly virus outbreak, and that a mysterious organisation known as ‘The Order’ will stop at nothing to find them.
Featuring zany characters, high-octane stunts, thrilling visuals and Deloreans galore, Blue World Order is not to be missed by anyone who calls this city home. You’ll never look at Canberra in the same way again!
(Fun fact: current and former ANU Film Group committee members appear as extras in this film – see if you can spot them!)
