I was eight years old when I first saw the original Jurassic Park in cinemas, so it’ll be a challenge to take off my rose-coloured nostalgia glasses to give an honest and frank review… You know what, I won’t even pretend to be objective here. This is the blockbuster event of the year!
Fallen Kingdom picks up four years after the destruction of the Jurassic World theme park, with Owen Grady (Pratt) and Claire Dearing (Howard) returning to the island to help with an evacuation, as the remaining inhabitants are threatened by an active volcano. As you can imagine, after the initial ‘oohs’ and ‘ahhs’ of seeing our giant reptilian friends return, it’s not too long before the running and screaming starts.
There’s no doubt that the dinosaurs are the stars of the show (CGI and physical effects have come a long way since 1993), and in particular, Owen’s ‘pet’ raptor, Blue. There are lots of nods to the original films, including the reappearance of everyone’s favourite Dr. Ian Malcolm (Goldblum), so fans are definitely not going to be disappointed. Hold on to your butts – this is a thrill ride 65 million (and 25) years in the making.
