Katja (Kruger) finds her life turned upside down when her Kurdish husband Nuri (Acar) and son Rocco are both killed in a vicious bomb attack. After an investigation that initially focuses on Nuri’s past as a drug dealer, the police find two new suspects in neo-Nazi couple André and Edda Möller.
The evidence is airtight and the Möllers are brought to court where Katja hopes to finally receive justice for her family – but a twist in the proceedings leaves her shocked and devastated. Having lost faith in the legal system, Katja sets out to seek justice for her family on her own terms.
Director Fatih Akin’s thriller is loosely based on the real-life murders of nine migrant citizens at the hands of a national-socialist group in Germany between 2000 and 2006. After spending time in Hollywood making movies like Troy and Inglourious Basterds, Kruger returns to Germany for In the Fade, delivering a remarkable performance that won Best Actress at last year’s Cannes Film Festival. And it’s not hard to see why, with her portrayal of Katja carrying the film to critical success both in Germany and internationally.
