** FREE SCREENING PRESENTED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE ANUSA QUEER* DEPARTMENT AS PART OF O-WEEK 2019 **
It’s 1993 and Cameron Post (Chloë Grace Moretz) appears to be the perfect high school girl. But when she is caught in the backseat of a car on prom night with another girl, she is swiftly sent away by her conservative Christian guardians to a treatment camp that aims to convert those ‘struggling’ with same-sex attraction.
Though subjected to questionable therapies, Cameron soon discovers an unexpected silver lining: for the first time in her life, she is part of the gay community and is able to find her place in the world amongst her fellow outcasts.
A worthy companion piece to Boy Erased (screening later this week), which similarly tackles the repellent practice of conversion therapy, this is a warm and heartfelt coming-of-age story that everyone should see.
