The writer-director of classic gross-out comedies like There’s Something About Mary, Dumb and Dumber and Shallow Hal turns his attention to a real-life drama.
Working-class Italian-American bouncer Tony Lip Vallelonga (Viggo Mortensen) agrees to drive African-American classical musician Dr Don Shirley (Mahershala Ali) on a tour of America’s South in the 1960s. Their clashes due to different ideals and life philosophies gradually thaw, as they witness and endure the prejudices of the time.
The title of the film refers to The Negro Motorist Green Book, a guide for safe travel through the racially segregated country.
Nominated for 5 Oscars in 2019, including Best Picture, Best Actor (Mortensen) and Best Supporting Actor (Ali).

This is the second film about the extraordinary Ruth Bader Ginsburg released in 2018, the year she celebrated 25 years as a Supreme Court Justice (and her 85th birthday!). The first, the documentary RBG, was screened at ANUFG last year.
In On the Basis of Sex we see how Ruth Bader Ginsburg (portrayed by Felicity Jones) struggles against sexual discrimination to follow her dream of becoming a lawyer.
With her husband Marty (Armie Hammer) she takes on the case of a man being denied an entitlement due to gender discrimination. If they win it will set a precedent for challenging laws that discriminate against women.
