** FOLLOWED BY A PANEL DISCUSSION PRESENTED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH ANU LAW REFORM AND SOCIAL JUSTICE **
Esteemed British High Court judge Fiona Maye (Emma Thompson) must determine whether to order an emergency blood transfusion for a young Leukaemia patient, who is also a Jehovah’s Witness (Fionn Whitehead, from Dunkirk). As the case progresses, Justice Maye develops an unlikely friendship with the patient whilst simultaneously addressing problems in her own marriage.
The Children Act is based on a past legal case presided over in the English High Court of Justice by Sir Alan Ward. The film was adapted for screen by English writer Ian McEwan (Atonement, On Chesil Beach) from his 2014 novel of the same name.
