** PRESENTED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE EMBASSY OF THE REPUBLIC OF TURKEY **
Sinan, an aspiring writer, visits his father Idris in his native village near Canakkale in this unhurried, beautiful three-hour film from Turkish director Nuri Bilge Ceylan (Winter Sleep, Once Upon a Time in Anatolia).
Sinan has a diploma but no job, and his family is on the poverty line due to Idris’ gambling addiction. Will he take the exams to be a teacher like father? Human issues are debated as we look inside contemporary Turkish society. Enjoy luminous and mesmerising cinematography together with excellent acting.
Idris tells his son that he often has a wild pear for breakfast and it is delicious. This film is, too.
