In November 2008, terror struck in the heart of India as terrorists carried out a series of coordinated attacks throughout Mumbai, including a siege at the city’s exclusive Taj Mahal Palace Hotel.

Australian director Anthony Maras’s debut feature vividly recounts the events of the attack, as well as its impact on locals, visitors and even the perpetrators. Among the characters we meet are a desperate couple (Armie Hammer, Nazanin Boniadi) trying to protect their newborn baby, a sleazy Russian businessman (Jason Isaacs), a brave chef (Anupam Kher) and a waiter (Dev Patel, at yet another hotel).

Given recent events, Hotel Mumbai may be difficult to watch, but should prove rewarding for those who brave it.
