Young Surya is born with a rare medical disorder known as congenital insensitivity to pain, which completely desensitises him to physical pain. Due to his condition, he is not allowed to leave the house and occupies his childhood watching his grandfather’s vintage martial arts films on VHS.
Years later, as an adult, Surya (Abhimanyu Dassani) is a sheltered, dorky movie buff – until a chance encounter with his screen idol sets him off on an epic quest become the hero he has always dreamed of becoming.
The Man Who Feels No Pain is a zany homage to pulpy action movies, wrapped up in a slick Bollywood melodrama and comedy. It premiered at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival, where it won a People’s Choice Award.
