In Victorian London, Sir Lionel Frost (Hugh Jackman) dreams of becoming the world’s foremost expert on myths and monsters. His efforts so far have made him the laughing stock of the scientific community – until he receives a letter tipping him off to the existence of a Bigfoot in America.
Frost soon discovers that the letter was actually sent by the Bigfoot himself (Zack Galifianakis), a goofy apeman who is the last of his kind. The lonely creature has a proposition for Frost: in exchange for helping prove his existence, he wants to be reunited with his distant Yeti relatives in the Himalayas.
This fifth film from the stop-motion animation wizards at Laika (Coraline, Kubo and the Two Strings) is a dazzlingly gorgeous technological marvel and a fun, globetrotting adventure you won’t want to miss.

After crash landing in arctic, a man (Mads Mikkelsen) sets up a makeshift camp and awaits rescue. He’s made the best of the situation: catching fish, sending out regular distress calls, avoiding polar bears. But he’s not alone for long, and is soon forced to choose between remaining in relative safety, or embarking on a deadly trek through the frozen wilderness in the hopes of finding a way home.
Artic is a lean, mean film that’s worlds away from Hollywood-style survival thrillers. It is admittedly quiet (there’s barely any dialogue) but no less captivating or tense, largely in part due to an extraordinary performance from Mikkelsen.
