In five episodes, failed architect Jack (Matt Dillon) takes us through his body of work – that is, his new calling as a serial killer carrying out elaborately orchestrated murders over the course of 12 years.
The ANU Film Group screens a variety of films for tastes, and this R-rated arthouse horror film from director Lars von Trier is likely to be one of the year’s most controversial.
As is the case with most of his work, von Trier does not hold back. Here, he uses violence, gore and misogyny as tools to shock desensitised and disaffected audiences. Art reflects life, but when the artist is a psychopath, he holds up a mirror to both society – and himself – showing us the abhorrence. Ugly, confronting art, but art nonetheless.
