After tackling the problems posed by sweet treats in That Sugar Film, director Damon Gameau sets his sights on the future. Specifically, he explores what the world could look like by the year 2040 if we used technology already available to us now to make it a better place.
Taking the form of a visual letter to his four-year-old daughter, Gameau uses the power of cinema to imagine the future – but it’s far from sci-fi. All of the solutions are based on real initiatives, ranging from renewable energy sources to alternate modes of transportation.
2040 is a positive and empowering film that offers a refreshingly hopeful take on the subject of climate change. Bring the kids and inspire them to join the regeneration.

A crew of death row inmates are offered a shot a redemption by undertaking a dangerous mission to the farthest reaches of the solar system. But the ship’s doctor (Juliette Binoche) has ulterior motives – and an unhinged mission of her own – setting everyone on board on a dark course that eventually leaves Monte (Robert Pattinson) and his infant daughter as the only survivors.
French arthouse director Claire Denis makes her English-language debut with a film that, on the surface, could be any one of countless Hollywood space thrillers, but in actual fact is anything but sci-fi cliché. High Life is challenging, violent and may test your patience, but should prove rewarding for those who follow through its journey.
