PRESENTED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE EMBASSY OF GEORGIA
Georgia’s official submission to the Best Foreign Language Film category at last year’s Oscars is a coming-of-age folk fable set in the mystical Georgian mountains.
Namme (Mariska Diasamidze) lives in a remote village with her three older brothers and her father (Aleko Abashidze), who serves as their local ‘water healer’, a traditional medicine man who derives his powers from a sacred spring. Namme’s father is getting old and sick, and her brothers have declined to carry on their father’s profession, so it falls to her to become the new village healer. But the role requires her to live a life free of distractions like love and marriage – and young unworldly Namme soon finds herself torn between tradition and independence.
