Some 30 years ago, Angela Lansbury became television’s most-recognised woman when she starred in ‘Murder, She Wrote’, which saw her solve a murder a week as Jessica Fletcher. This is the film that made it possible for her by giving her a crack at the most iconic of murder mystery detectives, Miss Marple.
Based on Agatha Christie’s eighth Miss Marple book, the film involves a death on the set of a Hollywood production setting up camp in the sleepy village of St. Mary Mead – complete with movie stars, played by genuine movie stars, including Elizabeth Taylor, Kim Novak, Tony Curtis and Rock Hudson; some of whom don’t quite make it to the end of the movie. Plus, of course, a very clever twist.

A stellar ensemble cast – including Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Toni Collette, Jamie Lee Curtis, Michael Shannon and Christopher Plummer – make murder mysteries fun again in acclaimed director Rian Johnson’s (Brick, Looper) clever, stylish and masterful modern-day tribute to the work of Agatha Christie.
When renowned crime novelist Harlan Thrombey (Plummer) is found dead at his estate after just celebrating his 85th birthday, debonair detective Benoit Blanc (Craig) is called in to investigate. As Blanc sifts through the evidence, he soon realises that everyone is a suspect: from Thrombey’s devoted staff to his dysfunctional family, who were all at the mansion for their patriarch’s birthday party – and who all have a motive for wanting him dead.
