40 years after the events of The Shining, a now-adult Danny Torrance (Ewan McGregor) is still traumatised by the terrifying events he endured as a child at the Overlook Hotel. But Dan’s life is once again about to be turned upside down when he encounters a young teenager named Abra (Kyliegh Curran) who also possesses the powerful gift of ‘the Shining’. Together, the unlikely pair are forced to call upon their psychic powers to evade a merciless cult leader (Rebecca Ferguson) whose followers feed off the gifted in their quest for immortality.

Based on Stephen King’s 2013 sequel novel, Doctor Sleep acts as a sequel to both Stanley Kubrick’s 1980 film and King’s original 1977 novel, reconciling the differences between the two while offering up a new vision of terror.
