What does Bruce Springsteen know about the world of a working class British-Pakistani teenager like Javed (Viveik Kalra), whose parents can’t see how his passion for music and writing will lead to a real job? Quite a lot it turns out, and as Javed delves into Springsteen’s back-catalogue, his life is forever changed.
Set in 1987, Blinded by the Light is based on journalist Sarfraz Manzoor's memoir ‘Greetings from Bury Park: Race, Religion and Rock N’ Roll’, and Manzoor co-wrote the script. No less than twelve of Springsteen’s songs feature in the soundtrack, including several rarities. This film will strike a chord in anyone who ever felt held back when, baby, they were born to run.

Based on the more evocatively-titled play “The End of the Rainbow”, Judy follows the titular Judy Garland as she embarks on her last, sold-out-yet-desperate concert tour in London in 1969. Months before her eventual death, Garland (as played with taut twitchiness by Renée Zellweger) is barely keeping it together off-stage – or, indeed, on stage either.
When The Wizard of Oz had its initial release, it was nowhere more popular than in war-torn London; and three decades later, locals retain their affection for its star. Garland may have been right to see the city as her best shot at redemption.
