Acclaimed Italian director Matteo Garrone (Gomorrah, Dogman) returns to the authentic roots of one of the most iconic fairy tales of all time.
This live-action adaptation of Carlo Collodi's original 1883 book, The Adventures of Pinocchio, stars Roberto Benigni (Life is Beautiful) as Geppetto, the old woodcarver whose puppet creation magically comes to life with dreams of becoming a real boy. Easily led astray, Pinocchio (newcomer Federico Ielapi) tumbles from one misadventure to another as he is tricked, kidnapped and chased by bandits through a wonderful world full of imaginative creatures – from the belly of a giant fish, to the Land of Toys and the Field of Miracles.
Shot in beautiful Italian locations and utilising largely practical effects, Garrone's rich fantasy world is visually stunning proof that some tales are truly timeless.
Presented in Italian with English subtitles.
