Alice (Gemma Arterton) is a reclusive folklore investigator, resigned to a solitary life on the seaside cliffs of Southern England while World War II rages across the channel. From her clifftop study, she works to debunk myths using science to disprove the existence of magic.
When spirited young Frank (Lucas Bond), an evacuee from the London Blitz, is dumped into her irritable care, his innocence and curiosity awaken Alice’s deeply buried emotions. It's not long before she realises that the two of them have more in common in their pasts than she had first assumed.
Bravely embracing life’s miraculous unpredictability, Alice learns that wounds can be healed, second chances do occur, and that perhaps magic really does exist.
