In her debut feature as a writer-director, global music star Sia delivers a boldly original new screen musical – with 10 original songs – that examines how people can find a new sense of family and community, even as they face unexpected hardship.
Long estranged from her family, newly-sober free spirit Zu (Kate Hudson) receives the unexpected news that she is to become the sole guardian of her teenage half-sister, Music (Maddie Ziegler), after the death of their grandmother.
Music is nonverbal and on the autism spectrum, and Zu instantly struggles with her new responsibility as caretaker. With the help of a neighbour (Leslie Odom Jr.) and a daily routine lovingly created by their late grandmother, Zu and Music begin to form an unbreakable bond.
