Four Copenhagen high school teachers are struggling with the feeling that their lives have become stale. At a birthday dinner one night, they begin to discuss an obscure theory that humans being modestly inebriated is the key to a better life.
While most of the group are dismissive of the theory, depressed Martin (Mads Mikkelsen) is inspired to test it in a risky experiment to maintain a constant level of intoxication throughout the workday. Initial results are positive, and it's not long before the rest of the friends join in. But as the drinks are knocked back, it soon becomes clear that their experiment may have unintended consequences.
Mikkelsen reunites with director Thomas Vinterberg (The Hunt, this season's Kursk) for this intoxicating and moving tragicomedy. The Danish film has so far picked up a slew of international awards, including Best International Film at this year's Oscars.
