Step aside Godzilla and Kong. Created in 1940 by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, the animated rivalry between a cat named Tom and a mouse named Jerry has been one for the ages, having appeared in nearly 200 short films, television shows and films. But this is their first venture into the world of live-action/animated hybrid films!
It’s certainly a formula that has reaped rewards for Hollywood in recent years, but the key difference here is that our heroes are depicted in their classic 2D designs. None of those ‘realistic’ character redesigns to give you nightmares (I’m looking at you, Sonic).
The plot, for what it’s worth, involves Jerry taking up residence and living it up at the posh hotel in Manhattan. Unfortunately, the hotel is also about to host the wedding of the century, so any shenanigans are strictly prohibited – and it’s up to a desperate hotel employee (Chloë Grace Moretz) to rid the hotel of its uninvited guest. The solution? Hire Tom to exterminate the rodent and save the day.
