Two best friends – bored housewife Thelma (Geena Davis) and bullied waitress Louise (Susan Sarandon) – decide to escape the tedium of their everyday lives by hitting the road in Louise’s 1966 T-bird convertible for a three-day fishing trip with no husbands, no boyfriends and no problems.
But an unfortunate encounter with a would-be rapist transforms their weekend getaway soon turns into a cross-country run from the law as they make their escape to Mexico. Along the way, both women rediscover the strength of their friendship – and each other.
Celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, this iconic road movie’s feminist message is more potent now than ever. From Davis and Sarandon’s spirited performances, an early role for none other than Brad Pitt, to that iconic final scene, Thelma & Louise’s return to the big screen is not to be missed.
