After the events of the first film, Bea (Rose Byrne) and Thomas (Domnhall Gleeson) are now happily married and living with Peter (voiced by James Corden) and his makeshift family on the McGregor farm. Bea’s novel based on Peter’s adventures friends has become a huge hit, bestowing a welcome celebrity status on her rabbit, along with a not-so-welcome public perception that he is mischievous by nature.
So when a smooth-talking publisher (David Oyelowo) wants to turn Bea’s books into a full-fledged series with Peter as its villain, he is outraged and runs away to the big city – only to fall in with a crowd that makes him look practically angelic by comparison. As they initiate him into the city’s animal underworld, Peter must decide exactly what kind of bunny he wants to be.
Peter Rabbit 2 is a superior sequel to – believe it or not – one of the highest-grossing Australian films in history (it was filmed in Sydney with local effects house Animal Logic providing the animation).
