In the far future, the noble House Atriedes is tasked with replacing House Harkonnen as rulers of the desert planet Arrakis. Harsh and inhospitable, Arrakis also happens to be the only source of the most precious resource in existence: a powerful substance known as ‘spice’.
Though initially apprehensive, House Atriedes leader Duke Leto (Oscar Issac) soon sees the political advantages of controlling the spice planet. His young son, Paul (Timothée Chalamet), however, is not so certain and begins seeing troubling visions of the future – and a mysterious destiny that awaits him.
Since its publication in 1965, many have tried adapting Frank Herbert’s seminal and notoriously ‘unfilmable’ sci-fi novel, but no one has come close to accurately depicting Herbert’s sprawling tale on screen until now. Acclaimed director Denis Villeneuve (Arrival, Blade Runner 2049) finally gets to fulfil his lifelong ambition of bringing Dune to life and, aided by a magnificent cast, the results are nothing short of awe-inspiring.
Nominated for 10 Oscars in 2022, including Best Picture.
