PRESENTED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE ROYAL NORWEGIAN EMBASSY
As Julie (Renate Reinsve) approaches 30, her life is an existential mess. She’s still struggling to find her career path and her older boyfriend, Aksel (Anders Danielsen Lie) – a successful graphic novelist – is pushing for them to settle down. It’s not long before she has broken up with Aksel and thrown herself into yet another new relationship with the young, charming Eivind (Herbert Nordrum), hoping that he is the one. But is he the one? Can you ever truly be sure?
Chronicling four years in Julie’s life as told across 12 chapters, this gloriously beguiling film is ostensibly a coming-of-age romantic drama, but one done so well that you have no choice but to sit up and take notice. Reinsve, in particular, is a revelation and was rightfully honoured with Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival. The film itself has been similarly lauded with awards along with two Oscar nominations, for Best International Film and Best Original Screenplay.
