Never has there been a criminal crew of animal outlaws as infamous as The Bad Guys. But after years of countless heists, the gang – pickpocket Mr. Wolf (Sam Rockwell), safecracker Mr. Snake (Marc Maron), master-of-disguise Mr. Shark (Craig Robinson), heavyweight Mr. Piranha (Anthony Ramos) and computer hacker Ms. Tarantula (Awkwafina) – goes from being the world’s most-wanted villains to being… caught.

To keep them all from going to prison, Mr. Wolf brokers a deal that will see The Bad Guys attempt their most challenging job yet: reforming themselves as model citizens. Or at least pretending to be. But could even pretending to change their ways be enough to actually turn them good?

Based on the bestselling children’s book series by Australian author Aaron Blabey, DreamWorks Animation’s latest is a fast and funny action-comedy that the whole family can enjoy.

Desperate for money, two adopted brothers (Jake Gyllenhaal, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) rob a Los Angeles bank in one of the biggest heists in history. Finding themselves short of a getaway vehicle, they hijack what they presume is an empty ambulance. But it isn’t: the vehicle also contains a paramedic (Eiza González) and a critically injured cop (Jackson White). As they desperately flee the police outside, they must also keep the policeman inside alive.

Michael Bay has taken a 2005 Danish film of the same title, and as is his wont, dialled up the action, mayhem and attitude to eleven – and also inflated the running time. Yet for him, Ambulance also marks a return to low-budget film-making (or at least low-budget for him): closer to the likes of Bad Boys or The Rock than to the Transformers series.
