In a bold attempt to capitalise on the booming market in 1979, a group of young filmmakers set out on a road trip through rural Texas to make a pornographic film. They arrive at the farm of an elderly couple, intending to shoot the film at their secluded guesthouse. But when their eccentric hosts catch them filming on location, the cast and crew soon find themselves hunted by a killer and fighting for their lives.
This is another prime example of high quality, self-aware and creative horror filmmaking from the studio that gave us Hereditary, Midsommar and The Lighthouse. An homage to classic 70’s slasher films – notably Tobe Hooper's 1974 original Texas Chainsaw Massacre – X is clever, darkly funny and, of course, brimming with excessive sex, blood and gore. What more could you ask for?
