The storied legacy of the aristocratic Crawley family – and their faithful domestic servants – carries on in this big-screen sequel to 2019’s Downton Abbey, which itself was a spin-off of Julian Fellowes' popular television series of the same name.
Picking up after the King and Queen of England’s visit to Downton, the story begins as Lady Mary (Michelle Dockery) signs an agreement allowing a major motion picture to be filmed on the sprawling grounds of the estate. She and the Downton staff soon have their hands full playing host to the motley personalities of the directors, actors, and film crew who are temporarily moving in.
Meanwhile, the rest of the Crawley family accompany the Dowager Countess Violet (Maggie Smith) on a trip to the sunny climes of South of France, where she's inherited a villa from a mysterious former suitor. How scandalous!
