Middle-aged radio journalist Johnny (Joaquin Phoenix) travels around the United States interviewing children about their lives and their thoughts on the future of the world. When he is unexpectedly tasked with caring for his nine-year-old nephew, Jesse (Woody Norman), the pair quickly forge a bond. And when Johnny is pressured by his producing partners to get back to work, he decides to go on the road with Jesse in tow. After all, what’s the worst that could happen?
As it turns out, what does happen makes for a journey well worth taking as the unpredictable Jesse turns the tables on Johnny in the most unexpected ways. As the latest film from writer-director Mike Mills (Beginners, 20th Century Women), C'mon C'mon is a delicate and casually profound affair about human connection, featuring a winning performance from Phoenix and lovely black-and-white cinematography to boot.
