In 1962, Roald Dahl (Hugh Bonneville) was an up-and-coming author of children's books, married to Hollywood movie star Patricia Neal (Keeley Hawes). An unlikely pairing from the get-go, the couple end up retreating to the English countryside to focus on bringing up – and expanding – their young family, while ignoring fears that their fluctuating careers may soon be over. But their relationship is soon put to the ultimate test when tragedy strikes.
Their shared grief eventually becomes a source of redemption and strength, with Neal going on to win an Oscar for 1963’s Hud, starring alongside Paul Newman, and Dahl writing "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory", the renowned book which made him a household name.
Based on Stephen Michael Shearer's biography about Neal, To Olivia is a poignantly and elegantly made film which looks at a short but crucial period in the couple’s lives – and the transformative power of grief.
