Following on from his hugely successful first two films (Get Out, Us), comedian-turned-director Jordan Peele’s continues his ascent into the upper echelons of filmmaking superstardom with Nope, his first foray into science fiction.
After random objects falling from the sky result in the death of their father, two siblings – OJ (Daniel Kaluuya, reuniting with Peele) and Emerald (Keke Palmer) discover an alien spaceship hovering over their family’s horse ranch. The duo sets out to capture the spaceship on camera with the help of some unlikely allies, but the mission doesn’t go according to plan.
Much like the Oscar-winning Get Out and the terrifying Us, Peele’s third film is a puzzlebox with surprises and subtext galore. The less you know ahead of time the better, but you’re guaranteed to be talking about it long after you’ve left the cinema.
