It’s no secret that Hollywood loves remaking foreign films, although the opposite – Hollywood films being remade in other countries – is much less commonplace. Here is one such example: an official Hindi-language adaptation of 1994’s Forrest Gump.
Like the original, the film sees defining events in India’s storied history unfolding through the perspective of Laal Singh Chaddha (Aamir Khan, of 3 Idiots fame), a simple but kind-hearted man who embarks on an extraordinary journey through life.
Remaking the Best Picture winner starring Tom Hanks was no mean feat. Stuck in development for over two decades, it finally started its arduous shoot across more than 100 Indian locations in late 2019, only for filming to be halted for nearly a year due to COVID-19.
