PRESENTED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE EMBASSY OF SPAIN
Julio Blanco (Javier Bardem) is the charismatic owner of the family-run Blancos Básculas factory, which manufactures industrial scales in a Spanish provincial town. Awaiting a visit from a committee that could award his company a prestigious award for excellence, the seemingly benevolent Julio sets out to resolve of all of his employees’ grievances before the inspection. But his efforts are complicated by the return of the recently-fired Jose (Óscar de la Fuente), seeking reinstatement and threatening Julio’s chances of winning the coveted award.
This darkly comic Spanish satire offers sharp social criticism and a slick, slimy and winning performance from Bardem, in one of his juiciest roles to date. Critically adored, the film won six awards at the 2022 Goya Awards (the Spanish equivalent of the Oscars), including Best Film, Best Director and Best Actor.
