Each lonely for different reasons, Ali (Adeel Akhtar) and Ava (Claire Rushbrook) meet through their shared affection for Sofia (Ariana Bodorova), the six-year-old child of Ali’s Slovakian tenants, whom Ava teaches.
Over the course of a month in the Yorkshire of Bradford, a deep connection grows between them: Ali finds Ava’s warmth and kindness comforting and Ava is attracted to Ali’s complexity and humour. But it’s not long before the legacy of each of their past relationships begins to overshadow their newfound passion.
Acclaimed British writer-director Clio Barnard (Dark River, The Selfish Giant) takes a naturalistic approach to this tender and powerful story about two middle-aged people who defy familial pressures and cultural prejudice in the name of love.

From Erroll Flynn to Kevin Costner to Russell Crowe, screen Robin Hoods have had a tendency to get heavier – both literally and figuratively – over time. Exactly one hundred years later, now is the perfect time to revisit the first, most fleet-footed and joyful interpretation of them all: Douglas Fairbanks, who leaps tirelessly through one of the biggest, most popular blockbusters of the 1920s.
This Robin Hood starts life as the Earl of Huntingdon, a dashing aristocrat who loses everything through the machinations of his enemies: Sir Guy of Gisbourne (Paul Dickey), the High Sheriff of Nottingham (William Lowery), and Prince John (Sam De Grasse), usurper of the English throne. From his new base in Sherwood Forest, Robin strikes back at all three.
This fully restored version of the 1922 silent film features a new score by the Mont Alto Motion Picture Orchestra, and will be introduced by William Hoff, ANU researcher, historian and expert on all things Robin Hood.
