In Hungary in 1945, shortly after the end of World War II, chaos and insecurity reign supreme. In this political wasteland, a young con man named Balázs Hankó (Tamás Szabó Kimmel) slithers his way into the families of soldiers who died, trying to acquire their wealth and properties.

After this turns sour and he is forced to flee Budapest, Balázs is given shelter in the woods by a mysterious woman and her son. Still trying to confront his demons, he soon finds himself in a passionate love affair with the woman (Vica Kerekes), whose husband is presumed dead.
