A heartfelt, uplifting celebration of the legacy of Dame Whina (pronounced ‘Feena’) Cooper, a Māori activist who devoted her life to fighting for Indigenous New Zealanders. For nearly a century, she never stopped asserting the rights of her people – land rights, women’s rights, education rights – amidst her own tumultuous personal journey.

Covering everything from her birth in 1895 to her 1,100-kilometer march in 1975 at the remarkable age of 80 in protest of the seizure of Māori land, this sweeping biopic stars Rena Owen and Miriama McDowell as Cooper at different, crucial phases of her life.
