PRESENTED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE EMBASSY OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF GERMANY
In 1917, with the Great War reaching its peak, German teenager Paul Bäumer (Felix Kammerer) finds himself naively inspired to join his country’s military effort with a group of friends – but it’s not long before the initial euphoria of war turns into desperation and fear. As they fight for their lives, and each other, in the trenches, a peace-seeking politician (Daniel Brühl) tries to negotiate an armistice to end the bloodshed.
Equally epic and horrific, this stunning adaptation of Erich Maria Remarque’s classic 1929 anti-war novel is its third, but the first in its native German language.
Winner of 4 Oscars in 2023, for Best International Film, Best Original Score, Best Cinematography and Best Production Design. Nominated in 5 more categories, including Best Picture.
