It’s 1953. Williams (Bill Nighy) is a veteran civil servant serving as a cog within the bureaucracy of London as it rebuilds after WWII. His existence has long felt meaningless – until a shattering medical diagnosis forces him to take stock. Exploring various avenues in an attempt to grasp fulfilment before it goes beyond reach, he finds himself drawn to the natural vitality of Margaret (Aimee Lou Wood), a young woman who once worked under his supervision.
Anchored by a career-best performance from Nighy, this exquisite adaptation of Akira Kurosawa’s 1952 Japanese film, Ikiru, is not one to miss.
Nominated for 2 Oscars in 2023, including Best Actor (Bill Nighy).
