Following a near-fatal overdose on prescription painkillers, renowned photographer Nan Goldin puts her career on the line to hold Purdue Pharma accountable for America’s deadly opioid epidemic. Purdue’s owners, the Sackler family, are well-known for their financial support of the arts, so Goldin sets out to convince museums, galleries and other institutions to sever their ties with the philanthropic billionaires on moral grounds.
In addition to chronicling Goldin’s activism, this Oscar-nominated documentary also tells the parallel story of her emergence as an artist during the AIDS crisis in the 1970s through intimate interviews, rare footage, and Goldin’s groundbreaking photography.
