PRESENTED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE EMBASSY OF THE KINGDOM OF THE NETHERLANDS – FOLLOWED BY PANEL DISCUSSION (DETAILS TBA)
Melati Wijsen was just 12 years old when she led her first campaign: to rid her home of Bali of plastic bags forever. Through petitions, beach clean-ups, and even a hunger strike, Melati was able to convince her local government to commit to a plastic bag-free island by 2018.
Now, at 18, the Indonesian-Dutch activist travels across the globe to countries such as Greece, Brazil and Uganda, to meet other bright, young activist leaders who are beating the odds by working towards a better future – fighting for freedom of speech, women’s rights, food security and more – and showing us all how it’s done.
