PRESENTED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE EMBASSY OF THE REPUBLIC OF SLOVENIA
After her mother’s sudden death in a car accident, Moja (Loti Kovacic), a ten-year-old Australian-Slovenian girl living in outer Melbourne, unexpectedly becomes the grown-up of her fracturing immigrant family. Still unwilling to accept that her mother is gone, Moja desperately tries to focus her efforts on caring for her pregnant older sister, Vesna (Mackenzie Mazur), who has troubles of her own. Meanwhile, her distant father (Gregor Bakovic) continues to wrestle with his grief in his own quiet way.
Moja Vesna is Slovenian-Australian director Sara Kern's debut feature, which stems from her own experiences as an immigrant in Australia. It is simultaneously melancholy and hopeful, much like our young protagonist, spellbindingly brought to life by newcomer Loti.
