PRESENTED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE EMBASSY OF THE ISLAMIC REPUBLIC OF AFGHANISTAN AND UNHCR – FOLLOWED BY Q&A WITH DIRECTOR JOLYON HOFF AND MUZAFAR ALI
When Muzafar Ali, an Afghan-Australian refugee and photographer, discovered that Afghans have been an integral part of Australia for over 160 years, he set out on a journey to photograph their descendants as part of an ongoing search to define his own identity. Equally Indigenous and Colonial as much as they are immigrants, these descendants offered Muzafar and the filmmakers a rare opportunity to re-examine Australia’s history from oft-unseen walks of life.
Touching on some of Australia and the world’s biggest geopolitical issues – including our treatment of refugees and the ongoing ruling of Afghanistan by the Taliban – this powerful documentary is a testament of the power of individuals to create change.

Young married couple James (Alexander Skarsgård) and Em (Cleopatra Coleman) are enjoying their vacation at a luxury island resort when they meet an actress named Gabi (Mia Goth), who entices them to venture outside the resort grounds. After a debaucherous day in the countryside, James accidentally kills a local man during their drunken drive back to the resort. He soon finds himself faced with the death penalty, but much to his surprise, he learns that the country also has a unique system of justice whereby the guilty – if they’re rich enough – can be cloned and have the duplicates executed in their place.
From the twisted mind of Brandon Cronenberg comes a wickedly perverse satire that blends dark sci-fi concepts with equally black humour. With winningly hedonistic performances by Skarsgård and new Scream Queen, Mia Goth, this is one Infinity Pool you’ll want to dip your toes into.
