PRESENTED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE EMBASSY OF GEORGIA
In 2008, as the Russo-Georgian War rages on, panic quickly besets the rural village of Shindisi when word arrives that the Russians are coming. As everybody evacuates, two families decide to stay behind: a stoic old man and his sick wife, as well as a drunk widower and his teenage daughter. At the same time, a local unit of Georgian troops find themselves ambushed by Russian soldiers after learning that a ceasefire has been declared. With no one left to rescue them, it’s up to the remaining villagers to risk their lives to save the wounded.
Based on an incredible true story, this tale of compassion and bravery explores the experience of warfare from multiple viewpoints. And even as Georgia marks the 15th anniversary of the war, which began on August 7, 2008, there continue to be many parallels to be drawn by Russia’s incursion into Georgia and the current situation in Ukraine.
