When the Polish circus he works with is forced to part ways with their animal performers, a grey donkey named EO suddenly finds himself without the care and protection of his circus carer, Kasandara (Sandra Drzymalska). Embarking on a series of unpredictable adventures, EO travels the country and is both helped and hindered by an eclectic array of humans, all of which allow him to experience different aspects of humanity.

Spoiler alert: humans aren’t very nice. Or at least that’s what legendary Polish director Jerzy Skolimowski appears to be conveying with his latest work. Nominated for Best International Film at this year’s Oscars, the film offers a snapshot of the highs and lows of life – the harshness, the humour, the beauty and the horror – from the perspective of a lovely little donkey. Not to be missed.
