New York-based entertainment journalist Michael Ausiello (Jim Parsons) has spent much of his life writing about others than living his own. On a reluctant night out, he meets handsome and confident photographer Kit (Ben Aldridge). While it’s far from love at first sight, the two men bicker and grow to love each other over the years, eventually marrying and getting their happily ever after. Except, spoiler alert: it isn’t, as Kit ends up being diagnosed with a terminal cancer, forcing the couple to reckon with the prospect of losing each other after 14 years together.

Based on Michael Ausiello’s 2017 memoir of the same name, this is unabashedly a terminal illness tearjerker, but one that focuses just as much on the life that Michael and Kit share as what follows.
