PRESENTED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE ANU MATHEMATICAL SCIENCES INSTITUTE
During World War II, the United States military led a research and development program known as the Manhattan Project to produce the world’s first nuclear weapons in response to fears that Nazi scientists were doing the same. Led by theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer (Cillian Murphy), the project culminated in the first-ever detonation of a nuclear weapon in New Mexico on July 16, 1945, forever changing the world – and Oppenheimer.
Director Christopher Nolan’s highly-anticipated 12th film is his first biopic, but this is no mere Oscar bait. With all the hallmarks of a classic Nolan film, this epic, pulse-pounding thriller takes audiences directly into Oppenheimer’s mind, as he wrestles with destroying the world in order to save it. A who’s who of Hollywood joins Nolan regular Cillian Murphy in the title role, including Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., Florence Pugh, Rami Malek, Kenneth Branagh, Casey Affleck and Gary Oldman.
