Young single mother Sandra (Léa Seydoux, never better) lives in a small apartment in Paris with her eight-year-old daughter. Her parents have long been separated, but Sandra and her strong-willed mother (Nicole Garcia) are trying to come to terms on a nursing home for her ailing father, Georg (Pascal Greggory), whose health has begun to deteriorate as a result of a neurodegenerative disease. Struggling to balance the emotional needs of both her parents and her child, Sandra unexpectedly finds herself reconnecting with an old – and married – friend (Melvil Poupaud) in a passionate affair.
Acclaimed French writer-director Mia Hansen-Løve (Things to Come, Bergman Island) once again delicately weaves autobiographical elements into her work, making for a heartfelt and bittersweet tale of familial and romantic connections. Très bien!
