PRESENTED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE EMBASSY OF FINLAND
In 1944, during the last days of WWII, a solitary miner named Aatami (Jorma Tommila) strikes gold in the remote wilderness of Northern Finland. As he departs on his trusty horse, he crosses paths with a platoon of retreating, desperate Nazis. When they steal his gold, they quickly discover that Aatami is no ordinary prospector: he’s a legendary Finnish ex-soldier who will go to outrageous lengths to recover what’s his – even if it means killing every last Nazi in his path.
There may not be a direct translation for the Finnish word “sisu”, but Aatami embodies its meaning in his unimaginable determination in the face of overwhelming odds. Like a Nordic John Wick with a gloriously gory helping of tongue-in-cheek, Tarantino-esque fun, this film is a gold nugget waiting to be found.
