Opa! Everyone’s favourite Greek family heads back to the homeland in this third entry in the surprisingly successful franchise, more than two decades since the original became a worldwide phenomenon.
This time around, Toula (Nia Vardalos) finally gets the chance to take her American husband Ian (John Corbett) to Greece, following the death of her father, Gus (the late Michael Constantine). Assorted members of the sprawling Portokalos family join the journey to Gus’ childhood village for a family reunion, where Toula hopes to fulfil her father’s dying wish by giving his diaries to his old friends. Much to their surprise, however, they find the village empty and it falls to the family to track everyone down in time for the reunion.
A heartwarming and hilarious trip full of love, twists and turns, My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 is comfortingly formulaic, much like a warm holiday nap.
